“creativity is freedom… the absence of fear.” -ebadu
“i believe in compassion for human beings, whatever each person needs to get to that place, i totally respect and honor it… they bow their heads to different gods but that’s ok…” -ebadu
wow. i can’t believe this shirt was approved for production and actually put on the sales floor. as if we don’t have enough issues with young girls worrying about their physical appearance, now we want to send them the message that if they’re pretty they shouldn’t worry about having an education and developing their mind. wow. just wow. i’m sure whoever designed this shirt was trying for something sassy, but this just sends the wrong message. i’m all for fashion and taking care of yourself, but I think we as a society place too much emphasis on the external appearance of people like it’s the most important thing about a person. you can be pretty and well dressed, but if that’s all you have and that’s what you value most about yourself, then you have a huge problem.
parents play a big role in how a child views him/herself. if a parent is obsessive about their appearance and places a lot of importance on it, the child will think that’s how they’re suppose to act as well. parents pass on their own negative (hopefully positive) views of themselves to their kids. let’s not teach our kids to value what they see over what’s more important- their mind. i don’t know about you, but i don’t want our future to be too concerned about looking pretty to come up with solutions to our world’s problems. besides, kids shouldn’t be worrying about how they look, we should be nurturing their creativity and focusing on developing their minds, not their wardrobe, cause guess what? they’re going to grow out of it and they will have a lifetime of being concerned about how they look. so for now, can we let kids be kids? why are we in such a rush to make them grow up?
what’s even more disturbing than this shirt are the abercrombie push-up bikinis for little girls (click image of shirt above to get to the article, video about bikini is at the end of article). I mean really? wth?!? who thought that would be appropriate? i don’t get it! we chastise pedophiles for viewing children as sexual objects yet at the same time we give children the message that they should be sexual objects. wtf?!?
yes i’m pretty, but what’s better than that? i’m smart and i did all of my homework (well maybe 95% of it haha). there are millions of pretty people, and hell if you’re not pretty, you can get plastic surgery and get a makeover to become what you think is “pretty.” pretty is commonplace nowadays. if you want to stand out develop your mind and have something more to say than “omg that’s so cute” and “omg did you see my new so and so? isn’t it just so fetch?” when it comes down to it, i don’t care what you have or what you look like, if you’ve nothing to talk about besides the superficial, please move along.
i can write so much more about this, but i wont cause people should already know. now lemme go find my shirt that says “i’m too smart to worry about whether you think i’m pretty or not.”
the colors!! layers of sea necklace @ Anthropologie $78
as a former hurdler, i can really appreciate liu xiang’s technique and form… he run’s quite beautifully! after battling against an achilles injury, can he take gold again? can’t wait to find out!
i canNOT wait for the finals… i don’t think anyone can beat him… i wish he would run through the finish line though cause I think he can run well below 9 seconds.
i have horse legs and calves men envy, scarred up legs with accompanying stories… I LOVE MY MUSCLES.
i have always loved these ads and coming across them again has added fuel to the fire just in time! gotta train for the Buffalo Alley Run @ Camp Pendelton in October (hopefully mother’s treatment schedule will allow me to go, if not I can go to another one).
Happening biennially, the IAAF World Track & Field Championships is an event that I always look forward to. Like the Olympics, this event pits the world’s top track & field athletes against each other which results in inspirational, record-breaking performances.
Watching these athletes compete always gets me so amped up that I actually start stretching and working out during viewing and continue my little workout afterwards. I don’t think any other sport has ever moved me to tears while watching it. Yes, it’s that serious for me! Volleyball is my favorite sport to play, but track is so raw, so simple and pure that something about it just really moves me. Maybe it’s because in this sport you have to continuously improve and there is always a clear measure of this improvement or lack thereof. You’ll either get positive or negative reinforcement to let you know if your approach is working or not (if only life were as easy haha). In this sport, you have no one else to depend on to get a better time or distance. Sure you have a support group that helps you train and improve, but once you get on that track, it’s all up to you. For whatever event you are competing in, for that time, you either give it everything you’ve got or walk off the track knowing you didn’t. In track strategy only goes so far and there’s really no way to hide your weaknesses cause every millisecond and centimeter counts!
It’s been over 10 years since I last competed on a track, but I can still recall that feeling of satisfaction after a race or event when I am completely exhausted and my lungs feel like they could possibly collapse, and every muscle in my body is screaming… the feeling of great accomplishment because I overcame my body and mind so well, that I was able to keep going towards the finish line when my body told me that I should stop because it has no more… that feeling will always stay with me, and maybe that’s why I sometimes shed tears after watching an amazing race and seeing the winner celebrate… because I remember what it’s like to triumph over yourself… no other sport has ever challenged me mentally and physically so fully that every time I even got on that track was a feat in itself. In track and field you’re competing against other athletes for first place, but your biggest competition is yourself and in no other sport that I know of is defeating yourself so necessary.
The point is, I’ll be watching.
no explanation needed.
i knew Jared Leto was in a band but didn’t know the name of it nor had i ever heard their music before the other day. While i was doing some work with the TV on MTV (i never do this, i usually have pandora on but for some reason i wanted to see some music videos) this song came on. As soon as the video started i had to look up to see who was wailing so soulfully… and to my surprise it was Jared Leto… then the strings came in… the violin (i swear the violin is the voice of my soul, i wish i could play it) playing a melody that I’ve played— with my very limited abilities — on the piano which as far as I’m concerned consists of 3 keys that I don’t even know the names of off the top of my head… i was immediately hooked… the more i listened the more i was drawn in… didn’t know the lyrics but his voice and the melody just really resonated with me… then the chorus came on, something like “…would you kill to save a life, tell me would you kill to prove you’re right…” and it made me want to pay attention to the rest of the words… anyway, i love, love, love this song now… still don’t know all the lyrics, but if i keep replaying it like i have i’m sure i’ll get it eventually. i really like this unplugged version of the song because of his wailing in the beginning and its simplicity… the official video has “adult” imagery that reminded me of the French film “Irreversible” which I didn’t much care for because I think it took the attention away from the song and the voice. As an art film, I might like it better… but Jared Leto does look very nice in it :)
